Unit 38, recording audio and moving image.
For this task we had to create a short movie, so we had
to get into groups of three to four and shoot inside and outside of college
hours. With this we had to make our own soundtrack or use pre-existing music
that would be relevant for our film.
For our film we decided to use an original R&B
song, ‘Ashanti – foolish’. The reason for picking this song is because of the
genre of our film and it suited the film perfectly. Not only did we use
soundtrack, we used original sound and voice recordings meaning that we had to
book equipment several times for our shooting process to go as planned.
For the first scene me and my group agreed on making a
voice over for it and this meant that we had to find somewhere suitable and
quiet to do the recording so we didn’t have any interruptions or any noise in
the background of the recording. Booking the recorder allowed us to have a
better quality recording rather than having to record it on one of our phones. Before
recording the actual thing, we had some test runs so the recorder was working
properly and picking up what we was saying such as looking at the metres and
volume units so our recording was correct and in tune.
However, the first time we used it, it didn’t go to plan
meaning that because we didn’t know how to use it at first, we didn’t get
anything recorded when we thought we did. As the first one didn’t go to plan,
we changed the recording process by booking a mic and a camera and used that to
record the voice over. By doing this, it was a much better option and process
as the mic was directly near the mouth of the person speaking and by doing it
connected to the camera it was so much easier as we knew it would be saved the
memory card directly.
